Terry Carter, best known for his roles as Colonel Tigh in the original ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and Sergeant Joe Broadhurst on ‘McCloud,’ passed away at 95. A native of Brooklyn, Carter broke color barriers throughout his career, becoming one of the first Black actors as a regular on a TV sitcom series (‘The Phil Silvers Show’) and the first Black TV anchor newscaster (WBZ-TV Eyewitness News).
Carter’s prominent television roles include ‘Company of Killers,’ ‘McCloud,’ and ‘Battlestar Galactica.’ He also reprised his role as Colonel Tigh in the 1978 film adaptation.
Carter received numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award for ‘K*I*D*S,’ which he created, produced, and directed. He also produced and directed ‘A Duke Named Ellington,’ an Emmy-nominated documentary about jazz legend Duke Ellington.
Carter is survived by his wife, two children, a stepdaughter, a granddaughter, and extended family.
