WhatsApp Nearby File-Sharing Feature for Android Nears Completion

WhatsApp is reportedly close to releasing a new nearby file-sharing feature for Android users. The feature, which has been in development for some time, would allow users to transfer files via Bluetooth without requiring an internet connection. The feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.22 build, but it is not yet visible or usable by beta testers. According to the feature tracker WABetaInfo, the People Nearby feature now comes with detailed permissions required for it to work, including access to photos, media, files, Bluetooth, and location. Once permissions are granted, users will be able to discover other nearby users who have activated the file-sharing feature and transfer files among each other. The feature is said to be near completion and could be available to beta testers via a future update.

WhatsApp Introduces Offline File-Sharing Feature

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to share files offline, even without an internet connection. This feature will use Bluetooth to detect nearby phones with the same feature enabled. Users will have control over permissions for nearby device discovery, system file access, and location, ensuring a secure file-sharing process. WhatsApp will encrypt shared files to protect user privacy. This new feature will make file-sharing within WhatsApp more convenient and accessible, especially in areas with limited or no internet connectivity.
