Approximately 130 Indian families residing in 11 villages beyond the India-Bangladesh international border near Assam’s Karimganj and Cachar districts patiently await political leaders’ visits to address their concerns. These families, despite holding Indian citizenship, face unique challenges due to their geographical location outside the fenced border area. They eagerly participate in elections but express disappointment over the lack of campaigning and attention from political parties.

Along the 856-km border shared between Tripura and Bangladesh, six out of 11 previously unfenced sections have now been covered by fencing, with the remaining five expected to be completed by next year. This fencing aims to enhance border security and address issues such as trans-border smuggling, infiltration, and militancy.
