Red Sox Place Starter Brayan Bello on Injured List with Right Lat Strain

The Boston Red Sox have placed starter Brayan Bello on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 21, due to a right lat strain. Bello, who tossed six shutout innings and struck out seven Friday night in Pittsburgh, was supposed to start Thursday’s series finale against the Cleveland Guardians. Instead, he’ll be out at least through May 7, which is the first day he can return from the IL. The Red Sox are now missing three-fifths of their starting rotation, with Bello joining Nick Pivetta (flexor strain) and Garrett Whitlock (oblique strain) on the injured list.

Boston Red Sox Place Brayan Bello on Injured List

The Boston Red Sox announced on Monday that right-hander Brayan Bello has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right lat tightness, retroactive to April 21. Right-hander Zack Kelly has been recalled in a corresponding move. Bello’s placement on the injured list is a significant blow to the Red Sox, as he was a key part of their rotation plans after signing a $55 million contract extension in March. Through his first five starts of the season, Bello had shown improvement with a 23.6% strikeout rate. However, with Bello now joining a growing list of injured Boston pitchers, the Red Sox will need to find a way to fill the void in their rotation.
