Sitharaman Defends BJP’s Candidate Selection Amid Allegations Against Father

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to field Karan Saran, the son of Brij Bhushan Saran, from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh, despite allegations of sexual harassment against the elder Saran. She emphasized that no charges have been proven against Brij Bhushan, and even if he were convicted, his son should not be held responsible. Sitharaman also criticized other parties for giving tickets to individuals with family members facing criminal charges. Regarding the Prajwal Revanna ‘sex video’ case, Sitharaman accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of neglecting the matter for a year. She alleged that the state government prioritized political considerations over women’s safety and is now attempting to blame the BJP after an alliance with Revanna’s party.
