Calgary police have charged a 16-year-old with two counts of attempted murder after an incident in the downtown core. Investigators are seeking the assistance of a Good Samaritan who may have witnessed the incident and can provide valuable information. The victims, a man and a woman, were attacked by the suspect, who attempted to stab the man and chased them both. The female victim sought refuge under a parked car, while the male victim sought help from patrol officers. Upon arrival, officers apprehended the suspect after he attempted to flee. Both victims escaped unharmed and are not acquainted with the accused. The teenager will appear in court on June 6th. One person sustained serious injuries following a stabbing incident at Chinook Mall in Calgary on Thursday morning. Authorities responded to the scene near one of the mall’s entrances at approximately 11:40 a.m. Emergency Medical Services transported the adult victim to the hospital in a stable but serious condition. The suspect initially fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended at the Chinook LRT station. Investigations are ongoing.
Following a year-long investigation, three Calgary massage parlours and two homes have been identified as being used for illegal activities, including human trafficking. The investigation, conducted by ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams), the Calgary police and the RCMP, resulted in the arrest of 48-year-old Hai (Anna) Yan Ye, who has been charged with advertising sexual services, drug offences and firearms offences. Warrants were obtained and searches carried out on three commercial properties and two homes: Seagull Massage at 1034 8 Ave. S.W., 128 Massage at 1935 37 St. S.W., The One Massage Centre at 1919 31 St. S.E., the 1100 block of Hidden Valley Drive, and the 3100 block of 12 Ave. S.W. During the searches, investigators seized $15,000 in suspected proceeds of crime, a shotgun with ammunition and drugs. Four suspected victims, believed to be immigrants who were exploited into the sex trade, were identified and provided with help.
Calgary police are investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred in Saddle Ridge on Sunday morning, resulting in a man in his 20s sustaining serious injuries. The incident took place near the 10000 block of 46th Street northeast at approximately 12:30 a.m. after a dispute between several individuals escalated. The pedestrian was standing on the road when he was struck by a newer-model Jeep driven by another man in his 20s. The impact knocked the victim to the ground and dragged him a short distance. Despite the severity of the injuries, the victim was transported to the hospital by his friends. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene, and police have indicated that speed and impairment are not suspected to be factors in the collision.
The Calgary Police Service is seeking a suspect believed to be involved in a fatal shooting that occurred at a Super 8 hotel in the city’s southeast on March 25th. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Liban Abdirahman, was found dead from gunshot wounds in one of the hotel’s suites on the fourth floor. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s, six feet tall, with a slim build, was last seen wearing camouflage jeans, blue shoes, and a long, green winter coat. He fled the scene in a grey 2016-2018 Ford Focus hatchback. Police believe he has ties to Edmonton and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
