An elderly Calgary man fell victim to a sophisticated iPhone 15 Pro Max scam, losing $1,000 in the process. Despite the phone’s convincing appearance, with sealed packaging, a receipt, and seemingly valid serial and IMEI numbers, it turned out to be a cloned fake upon closer inspection by an Apple retailer. Tech expert Mike Yawney identified subtle differences in fonts, app functionality, and Siri’s behavior, revealing the device’s true nature. The victim expressed deep regret for the potential danger he placed his family in by allowing the scammer into his home. His efforts to recover the money have been unsuccessful, and he has reported the incident to the police and Facebook to prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
