Congress Party Faces Delay in Candidate Selection for Lok Sabha Election in Haryana

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near in Haryana, the Congress party is yet to declare its candidates, while its rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has already announced its nominees and intensified electioneering. Haryana has 10 Lok Sabha constituencies and will have single-phase polling on May 25. In the 2019 election, the BJP swept all 10 seats with a 70% voter turnout. The delay in the Congress’s candidate selection has provided ammunition for the BJP to criticize the opposition party, alleging infighting and factionalism. The Congress is contesting the election in an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with the Congress contesting nine seats and the AAP contesting one. The AAP has already announced its candidate for the Kurukshetra seat. Haryana Congress president Chaudhary Udaybhan has defended the delay, stating that the number of applicants in the Congress is high, which requires more time for decision-making. He emphasized that there is still ample time before nominations are filed and that the party is a democratic one where all voices need to be considered.
