The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has extended the implementation timeline for the Quality Control Order (QCO) covering cookware, utensils, and cans for foods and beverages. This decision comes after consultations with industry associations and aims to alleviate concerns raised by manufacturers. The DPIIT has also introduced specific relaxations for small businesses and implemented a six-month relaxation period for manufacturers to clear legacy stock. These measures demonstrate the Indian government’s commitment to balancing quality standards with the needs of businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises.
