Ephraim Matthew Hunter, a 29-year-old career criminal, was arrested for breaking into the official mayoral residence of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, where she was present with her family. Hunter, who was bloodied during the incident, caused significant damage to the rear glass door, estimated at between $5,000 and $10,000. District Attorney George Gascón believes Hunter targeted Bass due to the timing of the break-in. Brian Reader, a notorious career criminal and ringleader of the Hatton Garden heist, passed away last September without revealing the location of approximately £10 million worth of stolen loot. Police have recovered a portion of the £14 million stolen in 2015, but a significant amount remains missing.
