ED Raids Jharkhand Minister’s Aide’s Residence, Seizes Over 30 Crore in Cash

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at multiple locations in Ranchi, including the residence of Jahangir, a house help of Sanjiv Lal, who is the personal secretary of Jharkhand Rural Development minister Alamgir Alam. During the raids, the ED seized over 30 crore in cash, mostly in denominations of 500, from two premises linked to the minister and his aides. The raids were conducted in connection with a money laundering case against Virendra K Ram, the former chief engineer in the Jharkhand Rural Development Department. The ED has covered six premises connected to the minister and his aides as part of the investigation.

Bengaluru IT Raids: Cash, Gold, Diamonds Seized Days Before Karnataka Lok Sabha Polls

In a major crackdown, the Income Tax Department (IT) conducted raids at 16 locations in Bengaluru over the past two days, leading to the confiscation of a significant amount of cash, gold, and diamonds. The raids targeted industrialists and gold merchants in the Bengaluru South region, just days before the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. During the operation, authorities seized cash worth ₹1 crore and 33 lakh, along with 22 kilograms and 923 grams of gold jewellery, diamonds, and benami property deeds. The seizures took place in several locations across Bengaluru South, including Shankarpur, Saradevi Road, Mercantile Bank, Jayanagar 3rd Block, Saraswat Bank in Chamarajpet, Mata Sharada Devi Road, Jayanagar, and the Post Office in Basavanagudi. Notably, these raids come just days ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, with 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state going to polls on April 26 and the remaining 14 on May 7.

Man Caught Carrying Rs 14 Lakh in Violation of Election Code

Authorities have apprehended a man, Vino, for carrying Rs 14 lakh concealed within his clothing, violating the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha Elections. The incident occurred at the Walayar check post on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Officials became suspicious of Vino’s bulky attire and frisked him, uncovering bundles of cash hidden in his shirt’s lining. As per the Code, an individual may carry up to Rs 50,000; higher amounts require documentation. The seized funds have been reported to the Income Tax department, and investigations are ongoing. This incident highlights the intensified security measures in place ahead of the Kerala Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26th.
