S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl – Everything We Know

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is the highly anticipated sequel to the popular survival horror game set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Despite the challenges faced by the developers due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the game is still on track for release in 2025. This article delves into everything we know about the game, including the release date, platforms, gameplay, trailers, and pre-order options.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Hands-On: A Brutal Survival Shooter That Will Be Worth the Wait

After years of anticipation and delays due to the war in Ukraine, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is finally nearing its release date. I recently went hands-on with the game at Summer Game Fest, and it’s shaping up to be a brutal and unforgiving survival shooter that will be well worth the wait.

From the outset, it’s clear that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 takes place in a harsh and unforgiving world. The player character must physically threaten the very person who’s helping him sneak into the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. From there, you must slowly sneak through cracks in walls as helicopters fly overhead, searching for intruders.

The Exclusion Zone is also home to supernatural happenings, and it quickly becomes apparent that something is amiss. Eventually, you’ll make it into the Exclusion Zone safely, but your next task is to find a bunker with the information you need. Of course, everyone is dead when you get there, which seems like it will be a common sight in the Exclusion Zone.

After recovering what you need, you’ll head back out into the harsh outdoors environment, where you’ll encounter radiated puddles and deadly mutated creatures. GSC Game World has also implemented survival gameplay mechanics that add to the intensity of the game. If you walk too far into a radiated area, you’ll get radiation poisoning that will eventually kill you if you don’t drink something. If you’re shot, you’ll need to bandage yourself as quickly as possible or risk bleeding to death. There’s also a hunger system that will require players to eat eventually if they want to survive.

With limited inventory space for weapons and health items, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 constantly makes you feel like you’re at risk of dying. But that’s exactly the kind of feeling you want from a survival shooter with horror undertones. GSC Game World has had a clear vision for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and despite the challenges they’ve faced during development, they’ve delivered something that is unabashedly their unique vision. That should make this game worth the 14-year wait.
