India’s Digital Public Infrastructure Propelling MSME Growth and Global SDGs

India’s proactive adoption of the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has played a pivotal role in boosting the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The DPI network connects citizens with essential social services, fostering entrepreneurship, employment, and reducing capital costs. Nasscom estimates that DPI could contribute $8 trillion to India’s economy by 2030, with economic value added potentially reaching 4.2% of GDP. India’s successful integration of technology into citizen services was showcased at the UN’s First International Conference on DPI. The conference highlighted India’s Citizen Stack initiative and the Jocata Sumpoorn index, which leverages GST data to provide economic insights for MSMEs. The conference emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to drive innovation and highlighted India’s role as a benchmark in DPI implementation.
