Four Seasons Resort Langkawi proudly announces its role as the inaugural host of the Terry Fox Run on the picturesque island of Langkawi on July 6, 2024. The Terry Fox Run is an international event dedicated to honoring the legacy of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox and supporting Cancer Research Malaysia. Participants are invited to gather at Dataran Tanjung Rhu from 6:00 am onwards to embark on a meaningful 5 or 10-kilometer run or walk, representing their unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer. Every step taken, whether running, jogging, or walking, symbolizes a collective stride towards a cancer-free future.

The inaugural Hima Protected Areas Forum concluded on April 24th, marking a significant milestone in the conservation and sustainable development initiatives in Saudi Arabia. The gathering, held under the auspices of H.E. Eng. Abdulrahman AlFadley, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, brought together key stakeholders to address the crucial role of community-based conservation, sustainable resource management, and collaboration in protecting natural heritage. Key international figures, including representatives from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Conservation Monitoring Centre, and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), delivered impactful addresses, highlighting the urgency and importance of protected areas for a sustainable future.

Shady Side Academy Robotics Team Inspires Young Minds at Cooper-Siegel Library

Shady Side Academy’s Blue robotics team members collaborated with Cooper-Siegel Community Library to host a program that introduced young builders and coders to the world of robotics. Through hands-on classes, the junior engineers learned the fundamentals of construction, programming, and problem-solving. The highlight of the program was a showcase of their robotic creations, demonstrating their ingenuity and teamwork. The initiative aimed to foster a passion for science and technology among the younger generation.

Exceptional Employees and Students Honored for Excellence

Four exceptional employees from Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 and two senior students from Augustana College have been recognized for their dedication, commitment, and excellence. The Oak Lawn Board of Education acknowledged the outstanding contributions of Art Teacher Jennifer Clark, Science/EL Teacher Stephanie Dominguez, Director of Buildings and Grounds Joe Giglio Jr., and School Counselor Tim Krupa. Two Augustana College seniors, Grey White and Brianna Ebenroth, have been nominated for the college’s “More Than I Imagined” series for their remarkable academic and personal growth. Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 has welcomed 15 new members to the order, further strengthening their community ties. Additionally, several students from the southwest suburbs have actively engaged in research projects at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, participated in Lewis University’s presentation of “Godspell,” and performed in Augustana College’s OperX performance of “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” Orland Park’s Angelina Delise has been accepted into Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Science program.

At a recent Volunteer Fair hosted by the Lake Villa District Library, residents of Lindenhurst and the surrounding area explored a wide range of volunteer opportunities, presented by 17 organizations. These opportunities cater to diverse interests and commitment levels, from one-time events to regular involvement. The fair highlighted the importance of volunteerism for community well-being, providing social connections, movement, and a sense of purpose. Among the organizations represented were A Safe Place, Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois, the Lake Villa Township Lions Club, and Reach Rescue Inc., each seeking support for various programs.
