Drunk Dad-of-Two Threatens Taxi Driver with Knife After Failing to Pay Fare

A father of two, Dr. Gareth Carey, 43, has been sentenced for threatening a taxi driver with a knife and damaging his car’s wing mirror after failing to pay his fare. The incident occurred on June 25 last year when Carey, who holds multiple PhDs in psychology and sociology, was on a night out in Liverpool City Centre. He was intoxicated and failed to pay his £28 fare using an app on his phone. When the taxi driver decided to drive him to Merseyside Police headquarters, Carey became enraged and said, “I’m going to do you in. I’ve got a knife in my bag, you b*****d”. He then exited the cab and kicked it, causing £745 worth of damage to the wing mirror.

Teenagers Sentenced for Desecrating Rochdale Cenotaph

Three teenagers have been handed six-month referral orders for criminal damage after they daubed the words “Free Palestine” on the Rochdale Cenotaph. The Greater Manchester war memorial was defaced on November 7 last year, just a day after two other teenagers damaged poppy wreaths while shouting anti-Semitic language. Ahmed, Tariq, and the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and were ordered to pay compensation and costs. The incident led to police guarding the memorial ahead of Remembrance Day.
