Massimo Bottura’s Legacy: Empowering Refugee Women Through Food in Modena

Jessica Roswal, a student of renowned chef Massimo Bottura, and her friend Caroline Caprioglio, are changing lives in Modena, Italy, through their restaurant ‘Roots.’ This project, which won the ‘Champion of Change Award’ at the ‘World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ in June, provides free culinary training to refugee and immigrant women, particularly single mothers, who face high unemployment rates in Italy. ‘Roots’ offers a unique opportunity for these women to share their cultural cuisines with the community, while also gaining valuable skills and employment opportunities, ultimately promoting inclusivity and breaking down social barriers.
