Flooding Wreaks Havoc in Cumbria, Disrupting Travel and Leaving Devastation

Heavy rainfall has battered Cumbria, leading to widespread flooding and major travel disruption. Carlisle, in particular, bore the brunt of the deluge, recording the highest rainfall in the UK, causing the West Coast Main Line to be blocked and Northern services to Barrow-in-Furness to be suspended. The severity of the flooding prompted the Environment Agency to issue an emergency alert for the county for the first time.
