Tragic Crash at Birthday Party: 66-Year-Old Woman Faces Murder Charges

A 66-year-old woman, Marshella Marie Chidester, has been charged with second-degree murder and other offenses after a deadly crash at a children’s birthday party in Newport, Michigan. According to authorities, Chidester’s vehicle crashed into a boat house, killing an eight-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother. Approximately 15 victims, including children and adults, received first aid at the scene. Prosecutors allege that Chidester was operating under the influence of alcohol, with her blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. She is being held on a $1.5 million bond. While Chidester’s attorney claims she lost control due to an epileptic seizure, the prosecution disputes this, citing her admission of alcohol consumption despite being prescribed medication that advised against it. Chidester’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
