Kolkata Bathed in Heavy Rains as Deep Depression Brings Widespread Waterlogging

Kolkata and surrounding areas experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday due to a deep depression, causing widespread waterlogging, including at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Alipurduar, forecasting heavy rains and a yellow alert for Kolkata and other Gangetic West Bengal districts. While the airport runway remained operational, some parking stands were affected by waterlogging. City police reported ankle-deep water in parts of Kolkata, but traffic was not disrupted. The downpour, attributed to a deep depression shifting towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, significantly impacted daily life and transportation in the region.
