Chelsea Football Club has reportedly initiated contact with RB Leipzig to inquire about the availability of French defender Castello Lukeba. This move comes after the Blues’ dismal defensive performance against Arsenal, which resulted in a humiliating 5-0 defeat. The team’s current defensive woes have amplified the need for reinforcements, particularly with key players like Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah potentially departing due to financial constraints. Lukeba, a highly rated 21-year-old center-back, has quickly established himself as a reliable presence for Leipzig since joining last summer from Lyon. His impressive form has also earned him his first international cap for France. However, Chelsea’s pursuit of Lukeba may face competition from Manchester United, who are also in the market for defensive reinforcements and could potentially offer European football. Despite Leipzig’s initial reluctance to sell Lukeba, the presence of a substantial release clause in his contract suggests that a deal is not entirely out of reach.
