Delhi Scorches with Record-breaking Heat: Mungeshpur Records 52.9 Degrees Celsius

Delhi’s Mungeshpur locality witnessed an unprecedented surge in temperature on Wednesday, reaching a record-breaking 52.9 degrees Celsius. This extreme heat sparked concerns and disbelief, prompting Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to question the accuracy of the reading. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is investigating the data, as the Mungeshpur weather station’s temperature appears to be an outlier compared to other stations in the city. Despite the controversy, Delhi continues to grapple with a severe heatwave, leading the IMD to issue a red alert health notice warning of potential health risks for all individuals, especially vulnerable populations like the elderly and children. The capital’s sweltering conditions highlight the urgent need for precautionary measures and attention to heat-related illnesses during this intense summer season.

Relief for Delhi Construction Workers Amid Soaring Heat: LG Mandates Paid Breaks, Hydration Facilities

In response to scorching heatwaves in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered paid breaks for construction site laborers from 12 noon to 3 pm. This measure aims to protect workers from extreme temperatures, some areas reaching 50 degrees Celsius. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had already implemented this break since May 20. The LG also directed officials to ensure adequate hydration arrangements, such as water and coconut water, for laborers. Additional measures include placing earthen pots with drinking water at bus shelters, using treated water for road sprinkling, and activating water sprinklers at high-rise buildings to combat heat and pollution.

Delhi Relief as Thunderstorm, Rain Break Heat Spell

Delhi witnessed a welcome respite from the scorching heat as a pre-monsoon storm brought rain and gusty winds. The intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius, gave way to a dust storm followed by a thunderstorm with rainfall and strong winds ranging from 40 to 70 kmph. The weather department anticipates the storm to continue for the next two hours over Delhi and the National Capital Region. The minimum temperature remains at 22.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to settle around 38 degrees Celsius.
