A major fire at the Ghazipur landfill in Delhi has left residents gasping for breath and sparked a political slugfest. The BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of ‘criminal negligence’, while the AAP has promised an inquiry and action plan to prevent future incidents.
The Congress’s press conference to introduce its Lok Sabha candidates in Delhi was met with protests from a section of party workers. The protesters objected to the inclusion of Udit Raj, a former BJP MP, and Kanhaiya Kumar, a former CPI leader, as outsiders. Congress leaders, including Delhi chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, defended the party’s choices and highlighted the demand for Congress tickets.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has firmly dismissed rumors and social media posts claiming a fire incident at its headquarters, Vayu Bhavan, in New Delhi. The force clarified that no such fire took place at the multi-storey building along Rafi Marg, which houses the IAF headquarters, or its immediate vicinity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a sharp rise in temperatures in Delhi, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 40°Celsius in the next three days. However, no heatwave conditions are anticipated. Meanwhile, an intense heat wave continues to scorch large parts of east India, including West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar, for another five days. The IMD has issued warnings of heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in parts of West Bengal, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand during the next five days.
A tempo driver was killed on the spot while another person was injured when unknown assailants fired at them at a busy Delhi market on Monday afternoon. The incident was reported from outer Delhi’s Dayal Market in Alipur area. The dead person, who was shot 6-7 times, has been identified as Narendra Malik. He was declared brought dead to hospital. Narendra Malik was previously involved in a robbery case in 2017 and an Arms Act case in 2019. The other person, Tarun, his associate, suffered a bullet injury in his leg. He is being treated at Narela’s Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital. The four men, on two bikes, came wearing helmets, fired upon the two and fled away. Cops suspect intergang rivalry and have formed six teams to find the accused.
