Demi Vollering Reflects on Missed Title Defense in the 2024 Spring Classics

Despite a successful season start in 2023, SD Worx-Protime rider Demi Vollering has not yet secured a win in the 2024 spring one-day races. Vollering’s third-place finish in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège marked her last chance for a title defense, leaving her disappointed. The Dutch rider, who had also placed second in La Flèche Wallonne Femmes, acknowledged the difficulties of the season and expressed her determination to improve. Vollering looks ahead to the upcoming La Vuelta España Femenina, where she aims to redeem herself after losing the red jersey in 2023.

La Vuelta Femenina 2024: Contenders for the Red Jersey

With three-time champion Annemiek van Vleuten retiring, a new group of potential victors will be vying for the red jersey at La Vuelta Femenina. Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) is the most obvious choice as race favourite, but she hasn’t had the same form on the run-in this season. Other contenders include Elisa Longo Borghini and Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek), Kasia Niewiadoma and Ricarda Bauernfeind (Canyon-SRAM), Mavi García (Liv-AlUla-Jayco), Juliette Labous (dsm-firmenich-PostNL), Riejanne Markus (Visma-Lease a Bike), and Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal).
