Typhoon Shanshan, one of the strongest storms to hit Japan, brought torrential downpours and widespread disruptions, causing factory closures, transportation shutdowns, and evacuations. The storm has claimed at least three lives and injured 78 people, while leaving thousands without power.

With Asia warming at a faster rate than the global average, glaciers in the region’s high-mountain areas have faced significant mass loss due to record high temperatures and arid conditions.
