Bed-ridden Octogenarian Woman Disowned by Family Receives Relief from High Court

An octogenarian woman who was disowned by her husband and son and left bedridden due to a brain stroke has finally received relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court has directed the trial court to decide her maintenance application within two weeks. The bedridden woman had been seeking maintenance under the Domestic Violence Act since August 2019 but did not receive any timely relief from the district court. She then approached the High Court, which issued directions to the trial court to decide her application expeditiously. The trial court later ordered her husband and son to pay a maintenance of Rs 30,000 per month, but the order was not executed. The woman then filed an execution application in the district court, but it was not decided for eight months. She then again approached the High Court, seeking directions to the trial court to decide the execution application in a time-bound manner. The High Court has now directed the trial court to decide the execution application as expeditiously as possible.
