The Tourism Ministry is also proposing a 90-day visa waiver for Indian visitors, pending approval from the President. These initiatives aim to facilitate easier travel and attract more Indian tourists to South Africa.
Sri Lanka has implemented a significant increase in its visa fees, making them the highest in Asia. This has raised concerns among tourism leaders who fear that it will negatively impact the country’s tourism industry and make it less competitive compared to other destinations in the region such as Thailand and Vietnam. The fee hike has prompted industry leaders to request President Ranil Wickremesinghe to reconsider the decision, as it comes at a time when Sri Lanka aims to attract 2.5 million tourists by the end of the year.
