India to Issue Flood Warnings up to Two Weeks in Advance

India is facing increasingly severe flood events, with recent years seeing billions in damage. To mitigate this, the Union government is planning to drastically improve flood warning systems, aiming for 7-15 day notices instead of the current 24-hour alerts. This will rely heavily on data from the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The new system aims to predict river flow patterns, not just rainfall amounts, and will utilize existing monitoring systems to issue more accurate and timely warnings.
