Edmonton Police Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation by ASIRT

Edmonton police have requested an investigation by the independent police watchdog, ASIRT, after an officer shot a man in the city’s McCauley neighborhood. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when officers responded to a reported assault at a home near 109th Avenue and 93rd Street. According to a news release, a 33-year-old man assaulted another man at the residence. When police arrived, the suspect exited the residence carrying a weapon, resulting in a confrontation that led to officers discharging their firearms. The suspect sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition in hospital. A nearby home was also struck by gunfire, although there were no injuries reported. ASIRT is now investigating the incident, which is standard procedure for serious incidents involving police in Alberta.

Suspects at Large after Assault, Hit-and-Run, and Samaritan Assault

The incident began when a black Ford Fusion sedan collided with a black Hyundai Sonata near Scona Road and 94th Avenue. The Ford Fusion then attempted to flee the scene, prompting a witness driving a silver Dodge RAM pickup truck to intervene. Two women from the Ford Fusion exited the vehicle and assaulted the good Samaritan, who retaliated by stabbing one of the suspects in the hand with a seatbelt cutter. The male suspect and the two women then escaped in the Ford Fusion, while the driver of the Hyundai Sonata remained uninjured. The woman in the pickup truck sustained severe, non-life-threatening injuries. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the Ford Fusion and the three suspects.
