A new report challenges the stereotype of lonely elderly people, revealing that young adults aged 18-24 are significantly more likely to experience loneliness than those over 75. The study, conducted by Whitestone Insight for the Centre for Social Justice, highlights the importance of social connections and community engagement in combatting loneliness across all age groups.
In a pioneering initiative, over 3,761 elderly and disabled residents of Wayanad district were provided home voting facilities during the recent Lok Sabha elections. This initiative aimed to ensure that these individuals, who often face challenges in accessing polling stations, could exercise their democratic rights from the comfort of their own homes. The process involved poll officials visiting the homes of eligible voters, accompanied by police personnel, to facilitate the voting process while maintaining secrecy and integrity.
