The Tamil Nadu government successfully retrieved a 14.5-acre land parcel, valued at Rs 150 crore, from a private soap company in Thiruvallur district. This action was taken after residents protested against the delayed removal of encroachments on the land, which was intended for an anganwadi construction. The soap company had claimed ownership of the land, but the government declared it as ‘grama natham’ (village land).

The Greater Chennai Corporation and traffic police have started removing encroachments and cracking down on illegal parking in T Nagar, aiming to free up roads and improve pedestrian access. While the corporation has removed vendors and pushcarts, residents feel more needs to be done, including stricter enforcement at the multi-level parking complex.
