Environmental Groups Demand Comprehensive Environmental Assessment of Oilsands Carbon Capture Project

Environmental organizations and concerned parties have jointly requested a comprehensive environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a proposed $16.5-billion carbon capture and storage project in Alberta’s oilsands region. The project, proposed by the Pathways Alliance, aims to capture and transport emissions from over 20 oilsands facilities. However, the groups argue that the proposed project’s scale warrants a full-scale EIA rather than the phased evaluation approach currently underway by the Alberta Energy Regulator.

Sandy Beach Closure Announcement for 2024 Season

The Town of Hudson has announced the closure of Sandy Beach for the entire 2024 summer season due to inaccessible trails and ongoing environmental assessments. To ensure compliance with regulations, SAGIE Inc. has been commissioned to provide recommendations for aligning trail development with environmental standards. Pending Ministry of the Environment approval, plans and specifications for new facilities will be developed. The Town will implement measures to protect private property rights and install signage to notify the public of the closure.
