EarthEcho International has announced a new program designed to empower 16 BIPOC youth in ocean restoration and climate action. The Blue Carbon Ambassador program provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and opportunities to develop and implement projects that support blue carbon ecosystems in their local communities.

Saskatoon students are engaging in a youth speaker series to raise awareness about the effects of climate change and advocate for environmental action. They want to make their voices heard by policymakers and school divisions, urging them to prioritize climate change mitigation and create a sustainable future for their generation.
The Evanston Ecology Center celebrated its 50th anniversary with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, April 19th, and an Earth Day Fest on Saturday, April 20th. The groundbreaking commemorated the beginning of a renovation project that will enhance the center’s facilities and make it more environmentally sustainable. The event featured speeches from city leaders, including Mayor Daniel Biss, and highlighted the center’s history of environmental education in the community. The Earth Day Fest offered a variety of activities for all ages, including nature crafts, games, and educational exhibits.
Preordered trees are now available for pickup at Freeport Community Library until April 27th. The library will be distributing over 100 white cedar saplings, making this year’s tree giveaway the largest since the program’s inception two years ago. The program, in partnership with Neighborhood Trees, aims to provide children with native saplings and foster environmental stewardship. Over 900 organizations nationwide participate in the program, with plans to distribute over 67,000 saplings to children in North America this year.
Local environmentalist organizations joined forces with Clean Ocean Action (COA) to host the 5th Annual Staten Island Student Summit, an educational day filled with hands-on scientific experiences for local students. Students from various elementary schools and Staten Island Academy took on the role of marine biologists, engaging in interactive presentations led by experts from organizations such as the Natural Resources and Protective Association, Great Kills National Park Service, Billion Oyster Project, Staten Island Zoo, and more. The event aimed to foster environmental awareness, inspire students to become stewards of their natural surroundings, and promote the conservation of Staten Island’s marine life.
Smiling Tree, an organization founded by Aarav and Alina Kwatra, celebrated Earth Day by planting trees, raising awareness, and inspiring young eco-activists.
To mark Earth Day, Merryhill Preschool released 13,000 ladybugs as a natural pest control method, teaching students the importance of the environment. Principal Peyton Johnston emphasized the school’s focus on learning through play and fostering environmental awareness in young children.
