Tambaram Corporation in Chennai has been actively combating illegal dumping of sewage, garbage, and construction debris. In the past four months, they have collected over 2 lakh in fines from 63 lorries caught violating regulations. The corporation has also implemented measures like licensing private sewage tankers and mandating GPS tracking to prevent such illegal activities.
Matthew R. Talamo, owner of Southern Diesel Truck Co., was sentenced to four years probation and fined $50,000 for modifying emissions controls on over 200 pickup trucks from 2018 to 2022. Talamo disabled hardware and software, tampering with on-board diagnostic systems, leading to increased pollutant emissions. The company specialized in aftermarket modifications that removed exhaust components lacking emission filters, resulting in reduced maintenance costs and improved speed and fuel efficiency for the owners.
