EOW Clears Ajit Pawar’s Wife in MSCB ‘Scam’ Case, Opposition Alleges Political Favoritism

The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has cleared Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in the Rs 25,000 crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) ‘scam’ case. The EOW’s closure report stated that there was no evidence of criminality or misconduct on Sunetra Pawar’s part, and that the bank had not suffered any losses during the loan or sale of the Jarandeshwar Sugar Mill. The Opposition has criticized the development, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of easing investigations on leaders who switch sides and join the ruling party.
