The European Commission has initiated an investigation into China’s medical device procurement practices, citing concerns over discrimination against EU businesses. The preliminary investigation identified restrictions on foreign suppliers, a ‘buy China’ policy, and regulations favoring domestic products. The probe follows a series of investigations by Brussels into foreign subsidies and anti-competitive practices. China is invited to provide its views and information within nine months. If the investigation confirms the preliminary findings, Chinese companies may face downgraded tenders and exclusion from EU markets.
