Air India, a loss-making airline owned by the Tata Group, has reduced the free cabin baggage allowance for its lowest economy fare segment on domestic flights from 20 kilograms to 15 kilograms. This change is part of a menu-based pricing model that categorizes fares into three families: Comfort, Comfort Plus, and Flex. Each family offers varying levels of benefits and fare restrictions at different price points. The reduction in baggage allowance applies to the Comfort and Comfort Plus categories, with Comfort Plus now offering 15 kg instead of 25 kg. The Flex category maintains its 25 kg baggage allowance. This move is in line with other domestic airlines, which also allow 15 kg of cabin baggage without charge. Air India’s fare families aim to provide passengers with more choice and flexibility in selecting the fare that best suits their needs, as traveler preferences have become more diverse.
