Ubisoft has announced a delay for its highly anticipated feudal Japan-based action platformer, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, pushing the release date to February 14, 2025. The delay is attributed to the need for further polish and refinement, although recent controversy surrounding the game has fueled speculation. Ubisoft has also made a significant change to the game’s content distribution model, offering the first expansion free to pre-order customers.

Ubisoft has announced the official name of its upcoming Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan: Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Formerly known as Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, the game will be an open-world RPG in the vein of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Little is known about the game’s story or characters, but Ubisoft promises players will be able to “live a very powerful shinobi fantasy.” Assassin’s Creed Shadows is in development by Ubisoft Quebec and is expected to be released in the near future.
