His exceptional performance at the Chess Olympiad, including a decisive victory against Jan Subelj of Slovenia, propelled him past Fabiano Caruana of the USA. At 20 years old, Erigaisi is now the highest-rated Indian player and only trails Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen in the standings.
