WhatsApp Nearby File-Sharing Feature for Android Nears Completion

WhatsApp is reportedly close to releasing a new nearby file-sharing feature for Android users. The feature, which has been in development for some time, would allow users to transfer files via Bluetooth without requiring an internet connection. The feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.22 build, but it is not yet visible or usable by beta testers. According to the feature tracker WABetaInfo, the People Nearby feature now comes with detailed permissions required for it to work, including access to photos, media, files, Bluetooth, and location. Once permissions are granted, users will be able to discover other nearby users who have activated the file-sharing feature and transfer files among each other. The feature is said to be near completion and could be available to beta testers via a future update.
