Iowa Enacts Second Amendment Privacy Act, Protecting Gun Purchasers’ Financial Information

Iowa Governor signed into law a bill known as the “Second Amendment Privacy Act,” safeguarding the privacy of individuals purchasing firearms and ammunition in the state. The law prohibits financial institutions from using firearm-specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) or discriminating against gun retailers based on MCC assignment. It also bans the creation or maintenance of any list or registry of firearm ownership and prohibits the disclosure of protected financial information.
