The US government is now paying an average of $3 billion per day in interest on the national debt, a significant increase from the beginning of 2022. This alarming trend is projected to result in a staggering $1.157 trillion in interest payments for the entire fiscal year 2024.
Indiana state agencies collectively spent $5 million on travel during the 2024 fiscal year, a slight increase from the previous year. The Holiday Inn was the most popular hotel chain for state employees, and the top spending departments included the Indiana Department of Health, Department of Child Services, Department of Revenue, Lieutenant Governor’s Office, and Indiana Department of Correction. Federal grants funded a significant portion of the travel expenses, particularly for healthcare inspections, staff training, and extradition-related costs.
