Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. The rainfall may cause localized flooding, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions.
Chennai and surrounding districts are bracing for heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, with the intensity expected to increase on Tuesday, October 15. Dr. S Balachandran, Scientist and Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre, has advised fishermen to stay ashore.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory for fishermen venturing into the sea off the coasts of northern and West Bengal due to an intense cyclone expected to hit the Bay of Bengal on May 23. The cyclone is forecasted to form a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 24, bringing with it high winds and heavy rainfall for Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Maharashtra between May 23 and May 27. Other states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, are expected to experience light rainfall until May 23, while Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu will face moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.
