Morrisons Offers Free ‘Henry’ Meals to Help Families in Need

Morrisons supermarket is teaming up with Heinz to offer customers a free hot meal from their cafés for the first two weeks in July. Shoppers can claim a jacket potato with Heinz Cheesy Beanz by simply saying the codeword ‘Henry’ to staff. This initiative aims to help families struggling with food poverty and is part of Morrisons’ 125th birthday celebrations.

Food Waste in the UK: A Tragedy and a Waste of Money

Food waste is a major problem in the UK, with 8.4 million people experiencing food poverty and 9.5 million tonnes of food binned every year. Several UK supermarkets are working to reduce food waste. Aldi offers “Too Good To Waste” boxes of slightly damaged produce, Lidl has launched “Too Good To Go” bags of unsold food, Waitrose redistributes food through charitable partners and Olio, Sainsbury’s offers “Taste me, Don’t waste me” boxes of surplus produce, M&S donates surplus food to the local community, Tesco prevents waste using the WRAP hierarchy, Asda donates surplus food to FareShare and animal feed, and Morrisons sells “Magic Bags” and works with community groups to reduce waste.
