Savvy Money Mum Shares Clever Trick to Decipher Hidden Label on Fruit and Veg, Reducing Food Waste

A savvy money-saving expert has revealed a clever trick to reduce food waste by deciphering a simple code on fruit and vegetable labels. According to the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), British households throw away an alarming amount of fresh produce daily, including millions of potatoes, bananas, and carrots. However, Gemma Bird, also known as Money Mum, has devised an ingenious method to combat this waste.

How to Store Sliced Bread to Make It Last Much Longer

Bread is a staple food item in many households, but it can also be one of the most wasted. According to Sophie Trueman, in-house food waste expert at Too Good To Go, around 4.3% of all bread purchased is wasted each year. One of the best ways to reduce bread waste is to store it properly. Trueman recommends storing sliced bread in a cloth bag with a piece of potato. The potato will help to absorb moisture and keep the bread fresh for longer. You can also freeze bread to extend its shelf life. However, be sure to store it in a hermetically sealed bag to prevent freezer burn. When you’re ready to eat the bread, defrost it in the refrigerator or at room temperature. You can then toast it or reheat it in the oven to give it a fresh, crunchy texture.
