To shorten travel times and streamline routes, the French Language School Board in P.E.I. is rezoning schools starting in September. The board had previously used yellow lines on roads to divide zones, causing neighboring students to attend different schools. The most significant change will affect students in southern Kings County, who will now attend École La-Belle-Cloche in Rollo Bay instead of École François-Buote in Charlottetown. Other rezoning will shift students from École Pierre-Chiasson in DeBlois to École Évangéline in Abram-Village. Despite challenges with only six schools across the province, the board aims to minimize travel times and improve efficiency. However, students who opt to stay at their current schools will not have door-to-door bus service and may need to walk or drive up to eight minutes to meet a bus. As the province’s population continues to grow, school zoning will be reconsidered more frequently.
