After a month of delays and a two-hour hearing, the Fresno City Council has approved plans for a new Costco warehouse to replace the existing location on West Shaw Avenue. The new warehouse will be significantly larger at 219,000 square feet, making it one of the largest in the world. It will feature a 32-pump gas station, a car wash, a dedicated food delivery service, and ample parking. The store is expected to create 37 new full-time jobs and generate $13 million in tax revenue. Part of Golden State Boulevard in central Fresno has been permanently closed due to construction of the high-speed rail Belmont Avenue Grade Separation Project. The closure extends from Belmont to Olive avenues and is intended to avoid cutting through sections of Roeding Park. Drivers are advised to use Highway 99 or Marks Avenue as alternate routes and allow extra time for commuting.
