The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to remove any claim of ‘100% fruit juices’ from the labels and advertisements of reconstituted fruit juices. This comes as multiple FBOs have been inaccurately marketing reconstituted fruit juices as ‘100% fruit juices.’
To comply with the standards, FBOs must label reconstituted fruit juices accordingly, with ‘reconstituted’ mentioned against the juice name. Additionally, if added nutritive sweeteners exceed 15 gm/kg, the product must be labelled as ‘Sweetened juice.’
