Rise of a Deadly Fungus

In the past decade, a new species of fungus called “Candida auris” has emerged as a deadly threat to humans worldwide. Resistant to most antifungal treatments, “C. auris” has spread to over 40 countries on six continents, killing thousands. Scientists are still trying to understand where “C. auris” came from and how it has become so virulent.
