Gujarat High Court Questions State Government Over Rajkot Fire Incident Suspensions

The Gujarat High Court has expressed concerns over the suspension of only junior-level officers in connection with the Rajkot game zone fire incident, which claimed 27 lives. The court questioned why the state government had not suspended the city municipal commissioner and inquired about the lack of invocation of Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the case. The incident has also led to a plea for booking 13 additional officers, which the court has accepted and scheduled a hearing for June 20.

Rajkot Gaming Room Fire: Death Toll Rises to 27

A tragic fire incident at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, on May 25 has claimed the lives of 27 people, including children. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has ordered an SIT investigation, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced compensation for the victims’ families. Rajkot Police have taken two people into custody for questioning, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has expressed condolences for the loss of life.
