2023 Daytime Emmy Nominations: ‘General Hospital,’ ‘Tamron Hall’ and ‘Turning Tables’ Lead the Pack

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. ABC’s long-running soap opera ‘General Hospital’ leads the pack with 11 nominations, including Outstanding Daytime Drama Series and acting nods for Finola Hughes, Cynthia Watros, and Robert Gossett. Talk shows ‘Tamron Hall’ and ‘Turning Tables’ also received multiple nominations, as did Hulu’s ‘Unexpected,’ ‘Searching for Soulfood,’ and ‘Drive with Swizz Beatz.’ Other notable nominees include National Geographic’s ‘Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory’ and ‘Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper.’ The awards ceremony will be held on June 7th.

Soap Opera Star and Screenwriter Meg Bennett Passes Away at 75

Meg Bennett, a Daytime Emmy-winning soap opera actress and screenwriter, passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer. Born Helen Margaret Bennett in 1948, she made her debut in the original Broadway run of ‘Grease’ before landing her first soap opera role in ‘Search for Tomorrow.’ Her most notable role was as Julia Newman on ‘The Young and the Restless,’ where she later became a writer. Bennett also appeared in ‘Santa Barbara’ and ‘General Hospital,’ and won numerous awards for her writing work on ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Santa Barbara.’
